Holly Golightly: You know those days when you get the mean reds? Paul Varjak: The mean reds, you mean like the blues? Holly Golightly: No. The blues are because you’re getting fat and maybe it’s been raining too long, you’re just sad that’s all. The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you’re afraid and you don’t know what you’re afraid of. Do you ever get that feeling? Paul Varjak: Sure. Holly Golightly: Well, when I get it the only thing that does any good is to jump in a cab and go to Tiffany’s. Calms me down right away. The quietness and the proud look of it; nothing very bad could happen to you there. If I could find a real-life place that’d make me feel like Tiffany’s, then – then I’d buy some furniture and give the cat a name!
Okay, so I know this isn’t the first time I’ve quoted Breakfast at Tiffany’s here, and it certainly won’t be the last, but when I was composing this look (oh, I don’t know, about a week and a half ago *sigh*) I was feeling some of those ‘mean reds’ myself. Life gets overwhelming on occasion, everyone knows that, and sometimes all you can do is go to Tiffany’s or, you know, haul buns over to the Gos Boutique to look at some new shoes. Why not swing over to the Designer Showcase to pick up shine by [ZD]‘s new mesh outfit while you’re at it and certainly, certainly treat yourself to the gorgeous new LeLutka hair, some jewelry from Paper Couture, and lovely, lovely makeup from cheLLe.
Well, actually this is my brother Lucky; the shoes are named Mae.
Ahhh, much better!
So maybe there’s a bit of a disconnect between what Lucky is wearing and what I’ve chosen for this pic. If you’re looking at our feet, sure, the shoes don’t really match (but aren’t they FANTASTIC?!). What I find interesting, though, is scrolling up, you can see that we aren’t mismatched either. We coordinated colours and accessories to make this shot just a little more cohesive. Life is like that, too; sometimes you can’t line things up exactly but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. Use what you’ve got. Love what you have.
I know for a fact that Lucky is going to rave about his sweater-bowtie-vest-thinger in HIS blog post so I’ll just tell you about what I’m wearing today. Deal?
Deal!
These shoes. I still have no words to describe them without sounding like a lovestruck fool; if you’ve read my Grace post, you already know what I mean. The shoes are part of Gos Boutique’s new line, named after four Hollywood icons (Grace Kelly, Mae West, Marilyn Monroe, and Sophia Loren) and if you STILL haven’t been to the new in-world boutique you need to go. Now. These shoes, like everything Gos, are incredible and created with so much passion and attention to detail you can’t help but channel it when you’re wearing them.
My outfit began with the shoes, as many of them will for the forseeable future, and I just KNEW that shine by [ZD]‘s new wrap dress belonged with them. Since I was feeling fancy, I wanted to rock LeLutka‘s Magdalen hair and maybe I started with more elaborate jewelry but when I saw what the broface (Lucky) was wearing, I quickly added some Gos cateye glasses and a pair of LaGyo earrings I found at the December Arcade event. I even went with a richer shade of IKON eyes, royal blue in this case, to keep the colour theme going. Co-blogs can be such fun!

So this post is a little late (what else is new? ) but I’d like to wish you the very, very best in 2013. I hope your holidays went beautifully and that you spent a wonderful time with friends and family. I hope you gave every gift you wanted to share and received thoughtful gifts in turn. I hope you danced on New Year’s Eve, or at least watched the fireworks.
I hope you’re smiling now.
Be happy, honey, because this is going to be a fantastic year. Have hope. Look forward.
How about we look forward to a year of nights out? Fancy parties aren’t just for the holidays and you do NOT have to spend a bunch to look amazing all year ’round. Use what you have (try typing ‘gloves’ in your inventory search bar, please just humour me here) because you bought it for a reason. Find new things to love; maybe it’ll be something like this beautiful (FREE! :O ) strapless mesh party dress from shine. Try using accessories that make a statement (ie. anything from Chop Zuey) and experiment with makeup in an environment where you -won’t- have to dry out your skin with soap and water.
“People think that everyone wears black in France; in fact they all wear grey.”
~ Jean Paul Gaultier
So, again, this is a post that got away from me. I had plans; everything was set in my mind, plotted to the last alpha layer. I was going to photograph shine’s Grey Collection in monochrome with vivid colour accents: bright red lips, stunning aquamarine eyes, verdant green foliage, and bold yellow gloves (you know how I love to play with gloves). When I signed in this morning, though, things came together differently.
Something you will notice, however, is that I kept each outfit very simple; after a month of shimmer, sparkle, and bright colour, it was refreshing to change gears this way. To ‘embrace the grey,’ as it were.
The best part about all of these, though? Only the ‘Grey Collection’ clothing is brand new – everything else was hiding in my inventory. You don’t have to spend to look great, my dears.
Shine by [ZD] has really outdone itself with this collection, I must say, and even though the clothing will only be available until the end of January I’m hoping you’ll drop by the mainstore to take a look for yourself. It’s definitely worth the effort. <3

Do you know the thing I love (olive) most about shine?
Sure, I’ve covered the brand before; Cecilia and I are friends; the clothes are fantastic and fun to wear but the more I think about it, I’m realizing that so many of my favourite outfits of this year have at least one piece of shine in them. What I’m noticing now (and yes, I know I’ve been wearing these clothes for months) is how well these pieces work with my existing wardrobe but they do it in such a way that everything feels new.
This outfit, for example, came together when I decided to showcase shine‘s new slim mesh jacket; since it’s so close-fitting I wanted to work with system pants over mesh and since it’s on the dressy side (hello, there’s a brooch attached to it!) it needed to have some sort of flair as well.
This is where I remind myself that I have one of the best hobbies in Second Life.
So we add cropped high-waist pants from my LeLutka folder (circa 2010 and STILL current), a Whippet & Buck boatneck top (ditto for both), the tights that came with my Maitreya Allure shoes (also from 2010, wow), and the Gos ’Posh Booties’ I picked up more than a year ago. To this, I HAD to add Exile‘s new ‘Raspberry Beret’ hair, some of Cae‘s ‘Knotted’ jewelry (another amazing new designer – if you haven’t checked her out yet, definitely get on that) and the very last Sea Hole scarf I needed to collect from The Arcade. That’s right ladies and gents, I have a full set now! WOO!
I think it’s safe to say that just because something’s been in your inventory for a while, it can still be a vital part of your wardrobe. Go ahead and unbox your gear from a couple of years ago; you might be surprised to love what you find!
Soooo .. I’ve been spending more time alone than I like these days, clearly, and this is not a time of year to be without friends and family or the zillion pets or whatever else makes you happy. Sometimes all you have to do, though, is poke someone you know and say “hey, want to do a blog post with me?”
This is my friend Alon Alphaville, awesome blogger and all-around stylish guy. PLEASE head over and check out his blog ‘Fashion By Double A‘ whenever you can; he does great stuff and knows far more about male fashion than I can hope to learn.
I’ll just talk about MY clothes instead, okay?
I wanted to do something special with this beautiful red poncho, by shine, that also hinted at the holidays. Is it strange that I only wear red in winter? Anyway, I started with the poncho (which looked bizarre until I put some pants on) and then realized that instead of wearing black trousers and a white blouse, I wanted to do something different. So I found a deep brown miniskirt and some fun tights from {Happy} as well as a creamy top with trumpet sleeves. League earmuffs came next when I realized this HAD to be an outdoors-y post and, omg, I am in love with these Ingenue booties. IN LOVE.
I don’t think I need to go into the details of what I had to do to get these earmuffs and the shade of boot I wanted from The Arcade, much less the RARE couple pose from !bang you see above. Let’s just not talk about that.

SECOND LIFE – In a shocking turn of events early this morning, a woman was found on her building platform in a strange array of clothing. Preferring only to be known as ‘Ms Body,’ this female was found in patterned leather pants, yellow booties, and a purple shirt. When questioned, the witness asserted the following:
“I have no idea how this came together – it just sort of happened.”
Several witnesses have been questioned but two key figures, Col. Mustard and Prof. Plum, remain at large.
“It’s horrifying,” says Miss Scarlet, a well-known fashion icon and advocate of glam style. “Whoever is responsible for this must answer to the authorities!” Another witness, Mrs. Peacock, asks the perpetrator(s) to come forward as soon as possible, saying only that ” (it is) … clearly some sort of mistake.”
As the Second Life Fashion Police (SLFP) are unavailable to answer questions at this time, speculation varies widely between fashion experts. Theories range from simple inattention to an inter-grid ‘Hippie’ conspiracy.
If you ask this reporter, however, the answer is simple: the blogger did it. ~

Just a quick post tonight (this morning?) but I wanted to share this cute little outfit with you before I started falling behind again. The first thing you’re going to notice (probably) is my new mesh friend; I’ve named him Charming and he just loves to stand around while I take pictures all day long. Cute, right?
So I’m wearing a couple of items from round 43 of the Designer’s Circle, Beautycode earrings and a pair of jeans from even.flow, along with my favourite Gos boots (yes, I have about six pairs of ‘favourite’ Gos boots but these are one of them) along with these sunglasses I can’t stop wearing either. Leather jacket from shine, newish Truth hair, and a great little tee from mon tissu .. what’s not to love?
It’s been running a while now (through December 13th) and while I apologize for the late coverage, I wanted to do this post justice too. Sometimes it really is better to let an outfit (or two in this case) sit for a day or so while your mind continues to process everything it is that you hope to achieve with a blog entry.
The theme of this post is ‘glam by day .. rockstar at night,’ which has been as challenging as it has been fun. Cecilia Blachere, designer of shine by [ZD], chose the artist Taylor Monsem (The Pretty Reckless) as her inspiration for the fair and she’s providing two exclusive outfits for us! Flipping fabulous ones. OMG.
So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the ‘glam’ outfit came together pretty easily. Since I basically live in my Gos ankle boots anyway, I grabbed them in taupe along with my favourite black tights (part of the Paper Couture ‘Braided Finish’ outfit) and lovely long white gloves.
But it still wasn’t ‘glam‘ enough! Gos‘ butterfly sunglasses came next along with Cae’s amazing ‘entangled’ jewelry set, both set to a platinum sheen to play off the studs in Ceci’s gorgeous mesh dress. Even though I rarely wear purses of any kind, I dashed over to FaMESHed to pick up Maxi Gossamer‘s FuFu bag in silver. I had to. It was important. >.>
The ‘rockstar’ outfit was a little harder for me, hah, since it’s not my habit to go running around in corsets, garters, and stockings (but more on THAT in my next post, raar!).
This outfit began with the LeLutka Blake hair, actually, and I worked my way down. One of the first things you’ll notice in a Pretty Reckless video is Miss Monsem’s long, long blonde hair, followed by massive amounts of eyeliner and her arresting pale eyes. Check and check! Pekka‘s kitty liner and IKON‘s Eternal Eyes in ‘Money’ seemed like the way to go, along with my favourite Miamai eyelashes in ‘Femme.’
But I’m still naked from the waist down! Aack! So the ‘Rockstar at Night’ outfit follows and gosh, do I ever love Shine right now. Stockings, corset, garters, and these cute little bows help me feel slightly more covered but, uhm, it’s still not enough. This doesn’t make me a prude; it means I get to accessorize even MORE because, as nice as skin is, I think it’s way hotter to be covered up. At least a little bit.
So next, it’s tattoos! Something I rarely get to play with but I just love this ‘Outlaw’ full body tattoo from v3 and it’s yet another way to hint at something interesting going on beneath your clothing. Take note. Take heed. Probably also run to v3 and look around. No, no. I’ll wait.
So now that you have your new tattoo (or at least a nice little shopping list), you have to wonder:
“What else can I use to carry a bit of glam into my rockstar-corset-tattooey-wickedness look?”
Tall boots, like these mesh numbers from Maitreya, aren’t really something you want to wear with a short skirt and bare legs (or maybe that’s just me >.>) but maaaan, they’re GREAT with stockings, leggings, and system layer bottoms. Mostly bare arms? Try a see-through glove like these crochet armwarmers from Shine and guys, seriously, couture jewelry is NOT just for evening wear. I brought this Chop Zuey ‘Miracle Business’ set into the picture and you can too!

1) An undisclosed location (okay, it’s the new shine and sharp mainstore but you didn’t hear it from me!)
2) DSL Records Club & Stage (and you can build here so it’s great for pics!)
So here I am, awake at 5am and smiling after a few glasses of wine, and I’m excited to share this next post with you! This is a dress I’ve been styling for a few days but nothing was working the way I thought it should. I don’t wear much black and I’ll be the first to say that it’s my biggest challenge to work with deep, dark shades like this.
Until I realize that colour is the answer!
Check it out: shine‘s simple black sixties dress (available NOW at Designer’s Circle #42) with Cae‘s beautiful starfish jewelry set. I changed the jewelry to ‘patina’ (and THANK YOU, Cae, for having an option to change every item at the same time <3) and found a pair of blue/green ombre tights from Milk Motion. Truth‘s Cyanne hair with a greenish headband (so pretty!) and my fantastic HOC platforms round it all out perfectly.
Pekka has also released several different eye makeup packs since I was there last and … I sort of bought all of them. Today it’s the fresh look eyeshadow and doesn’t it look wonderful with IKON‘s Eternal Eyes in ‘lagoon?’
