Whatever our reasons for joining Second Life, whatever path lead us here, everyone has a story that begins in another time and a very different place.
My story began online, way back in 2004 (holy wow!), in a place called Paragon City and, more specifically, in a game called City of Heroes. I played a mutant heroine named Ms Permafrost, an ice/storm controller (if that means anything to you). She was (is?) a defensive character and it was always my pleasure to keep opponents on ice with crowd control and damage mitigation, while tossing the occasional heal to allies as needed. Is my nerd hat showing?
Anyway. Most heroes have an alter ego and Ms P was no exception. Enter Portia Peterson (alliterative names are SO comic book), corporate heiress, do-gooder, and all-around fancy person who made heavy use of the wardrobe changing shop ICON and was on a first name basis with Serge, the NPC tailor. I’m sure you can see where this is going now.
Since nothing lasts forever, my time in City of Heroes was limited to a year or two and while I kept in touch with a few friends from my old server (Virtue – I’m a roleplayer too) the character fell into disuse. Until one of those friends convinced me to join Second Life to pick up our heroic storylines in a new place. That would be here.
I’ve stopped role playing since then; good friends have come and gone and while I’ve lost the urge to seek new adventures as Ms Permafrost (hah), I’ve found her alter ego much more to my liking. In time, she became .. well .. me.
What prompted this post, you ask? Simple. IKON released a new pack of Eternal Eyes this weekend and one, named Frost, brought back so many memories I had to share them here. Sometimes that’s all it takes. <3
