A Triumphant Return?

Can you believe that it’s been nearly four months since my last post?

I really can’t, honestly, but I suppose the fact that it took me five minutes and umpteen attempts to access my wordpress account can attest to the dry spell. I’ve missed blogging, missed sharing my thoughts and some of the many outfits I put together throughout my time in Second Life. No doubt some of you know that it’s been a busy time for me; my nephew is HUGE now (proud auntie pictures on my flickr page) and nearly seven months old! I’ve moved from my tiny apartment to a much-less-tiny townhouse across town and I’m loving all the extra space (and a computer in my bedroom, thank you very much!). With Thanksgiving approaching, I’m looking forward to cooking a massive meal for my family and having enough actual counter space to do it. Do you remember my post about Awesome Breed Creations (ABC) Horses? I’m working for them now as their official Clerk of Course, which means practically nothing to you, I’m sure, but it’s a marvelous honour. If you’re interested in racing horses in SL (or waiting for jousting events to begin like the rest of us), you should come check us out sometime. :)

Okay, okay. “ENOUGH!” you say.  Shall we talk about clothes?

Arrival Full 600

So first of all, you’ll notice that this is not the Portia you were looking for. Let me assure you that the black hair, although pretty, is not a permanent change; it is a role-play necessity for my new character on the Realms of Ice and Fire sim (yep, Game of Thrones role play!). Moving forward from today, you are going to see a mix of posts, both fantasy and contemporary, and a variety of themes I find interesting.

For me, this outfit represents a transition from modern fancytimes to a fantasy genre; nothing here was bought in a fantasy or medieval shop. The gown, from SHEY, is a great find I picked up a few months ago – it’s actually HUD-driven so this colour is one of sixteen different options included in the folder. Thank goodness for HUDs, by the way; this Magika hair comes with one as well, allowing someone who has been SL-blonde for the last four years to switch to ebon locks with ease.

But an updo and a gown do not a fantasy outfit make. In order to facilitate this transition I needed to focus on adding richness to the ensemble. This character is a Lady, clearly, and what noblewoman would leave home without her jewels? You’ll see much more of the Fall 2013 collection from Paper Couture in the coming weeks (I kind of splurged >.>) but to start, these diamonds strike the perfect balance between elegant style and conspicuous wealth.

Did you pick up one of the Ryvolter stoles during Collabor88‘s one-year anniversary? If not, and it would surprise me if you did not, you can still find them on the SL marketplace as their in-world shop is currently closed for renovation. Anyway, I’ve been waiting for a reason to wear this lush fur wrap so you can imagine how excited I was to put this outfit together.

Now you see how it IS possible to turn some of your modern clothing into a gorgeous fantasy outfit. But .. how do you remove every shadow of a doubt that you are, in fact, genre-hopping?

You stand on a pirate ship, of course! (Obviously.)
