New and Newerer

Wow, okay! So it’s been a little while since my last post and while I doubt I should admit to spending the last four days up to my eyeballs in SWToR (chapter 1 of the smuggler storyline complete, baby! LEGACY, WOOO!), I would also like to assure you that I am back and blogging for the forseeable future. Will I sneak off to fight the Imperials, work on my Huttball record, and take my XS Freighter through perilous deep space missions? Well, yes, but not at the expense of sharing fun fashion finds with you!

We’re talking about clothes now, see? I can stop playing any time I want. Yep.

So let’s talk about clothes! Have you checked the new month of Zodiac yet? It’s Scorpio time which means sultry, sultry, and oh .. also sultry. I’m totally in love with these shoes by Ingenue (GREAT PRICE RIGHT NOW TOO, OMG) and while they also come in maroon and water, I had to pick them up in sepia. This pose is part of an Exposeur set called ‘She’s Crafty,’ also available this month at Zodiac, and I just love the way  it draws attention from the head allll the way down to these great pumps. Brilliant.

Now onto the dress which is BRAND SPANKING NEW! My Shine addiction continues, of course. Even if this snuggly soft dress wasn’t mesh, I’d wear it everywhere with everything ~ with boots or pumps; with leggings or tights or just bare legs like today. Heck, I’d wear it with system jeans and no shoes at all! Or maybe sandals. Or flippy floppies. Or, or, or….

Possibly not even the first to blog these shoes, dress, and pose together but who could really resist Eclectic Apparel‘s ‘SciFi’ Dress, especially when *~*HopScotch*~* offers the perfect props in the exact same section of Cinema? If you’re any kind of nerd at all (and gosh, I certainly am), you’ve at least considered these two things together (and face it, Gos’ point court shoes are perfect with this) during your time at HCE’s Cinema Event.

Falling

I’m usually pretty happy. Whether through conscious effort or genuine gladness, this is the mood I choose to have and the face I choose to show the world. Always a kind word for someone, often with a quip or a compliment (or both, hah!), it’s been my experience that life is generally easier if you face it with a smile. Some days it’s as easy as breathing. Others, not so much.

Still, I try.

This post has been brewing a while, though, and is the culmination of a few things, really. Weeks of grief on top of months of stress and sadness; my anxieties and the neverending fight to BE the person I want to be. The seasonal change (and don’t pretend it doesn’t affect you too – we’re all human), juggling funds, and failure in more than a few areas. Depression. Blah. We’ve all been here in varying degrees and we deal with it in a variety of ways.

Generally, I spend as much time as I can with friends and family, trusting that time with people who care about me (and vice versa) will pick me up. I listen to music and dance; the club I visited tonight uses a windlight called ‘predawnmoon’ and yes, this also encouraged me that now is in fact the time to post.

I was already wearing an item from My Attic‘s new ‘Falling Into You’ cycle, the gorgeous Essences Nile dress and if you’ll glance below, you can see Exile‘s beautiful new hair ‘All for Love’ and one of the ‘Falling’ poses from aDORKable. This post practically made itself, I tell you.

.. in all the shops in all of the SL events right now .. the CadyLady and I bought the EXACT SAME ONE. At Cinema.

Crazy, right? But really .. would you have been able to resist the Volstead ‘Liason’ in honey? This lacy, silky, sheer chemise (if you aren’t wearing the glitch layers) left me speechless the second I tried it on. I’m still having trouble drumming up the words to describe how much I love this piece. Just .. go to Cinema and pick up the demo so you can throw me a line, here.

AAAHHHH!!!  Thursday already and nearly a week into Cinema! Can you believe it?! I had plans, so many plans, so many outfits lined up and ready to go but life just kind of takes over sometimes and it’s all we can do to keep up. But boy, I have a treat for you now – cross my heart and kiss my elbow!

So yes, I can never decide of Breakfast at Tiffany’s is my favourite movie of all time but when I have the “mean reds” there’s nothing else for me to do but pop this DVD on, close my eyes, and just listen to Audrey Hepburn’s voice for a couple of hours. I could do it right now except it’s Thursday (!!) and I have other things to do this afternoon, blah!

I kind of flipped when I saw Baiastice‘s version of Ms. Golightly’s orange coat (“Hey, did you ever steal anything from a five and ten – when you were a kid, I mean?”), and nearly fell out of my chair when I saw the vintage hats right beside it! I added my favourite black pumps (thank you, Gos!) and these great ‘Holly’ glasses from Redgrave because .. why the heck not? Also, they’re perfect.

The picture below may be one of my favourite outfits, period. I’ve covered Caroline’s Audrey necklace before (in black, back in my Tribute post) but “golly gee damn,” Ms. Apollo created the tiara and matching earrings for Cinema so I HAD to get the necklace in white to match. Obviously. This dress from Cracked Mirror fits like an absolute dream and look – my Ingenue kitten heels (still at The Arcade) peek out from beneath the skirt!

While I would love nothing more than to quote Holly Golightly at you all day long, I’m going to head off for now and serenade you with a sweet video instead. Deal? Deal.

To Be Free

So it’s no real secret that I’m loving the boho and as we move through autumn and into winter, I’m really hoping to see more fun patterns and layers to mix and match. This is what the bohemian style is really about, as far as I’m concerned; it’s the freedom to wear what you like best, to find something (or a bunch of things) that suit you and bring a smile to your face. See?

I mentioned Shine in my first blog post of the month so brace yourselves because I’m going to be covering this label a LOT in the coming months. The pretty ruffled dress you see above is available at this year’s Boho Culture Fair, opening TODAY and running through October 31st. The theme is urban hippie (WOOO!) and after my first foray into the madness, I have to say that I can’t wait to get in there and see more!

Shine is also offering the fantastic mesh crochet arm warmers visible in BOTH pictures (because I hear you can’t wear gloves every day, bah!) at the Boho fair annnnnd the taupe dress in the lower pic is a NEW release.

I’ve decided to work towards a more harmonious and soothing style with these outfits; I love the way IKON‘s bleached lavender eyes pop with cheLLe‘s dreamy navy eyeshadow; they way my Milk Motion floral tights convince the Maitreya radical boots to play nice with a dress that’s not -quite- the proper shade of purple otherwise but heck, it’s more fun than wearing it with black, right? The Burley braid (and SHAME ON YOU for not telling me about this place!) in platinum or this newish Truth hair in one of the fade shades (seasand, omg) are just right. Soothing. Calming. Siiiiiiigh.

Gos hunter booties (yep, still not taking them off) in taupe and one of my favourite pairs of sunglasses (thank you, Miel!) in sumac remind me of early October mornings at the family cottage where everything is misty and quiet and you can practically steep yourself in good vibes.

Coming Soon to a Cinema Near You!

Hiiiii everyone!

You may not be able to see me inside the GINORMOUS cinema but if you look verrrrry closely there’s a little yellow and blue person standing by the counter. Squint .. squint .. see me? HI!

You’re probably already aware that the Hottie Cooterati Experience event begins (OMG) LATER ON TODAY but if you haven’t bought your tickets yet, I’m going to tempt you with a couple of fun things I’ve found so far and probably rave way too much about an event which is very close to my heart.

Who doesn’t love going to the movies?

Okay, so first of all .. this event is HUGE and it’s all set inside a giant movie theatre because, helloooo, that’s the theme! As you can see below, there are a bunch of theatres to visit and in each one of those, smaller areas furnished by some of our favourite SL designers!

Cinema will be an elaborately themed sim-wide event centered around one of our favorite past times… movies!

Starting October 13th, Cinema will bring you into a massive and beautiful, intricately designed multiplex cinema featuring 8 individually themed theaters. You’ll be immersed in the movie going experience, and in true Hottie Cooterati style, we will have some fun surprises awaiting you.

As always, our events are more than just about a shopping spree, we want to give you an experience, something to have fun with, and something you will remember.

Don’t worry though, the stores won’t fail you as a shopping event as well. They will be pushed to their creative limits to bring you inspired and themed items from the romance, action/adventure, scifi, horror, fantasy/musical, film noir… and…. XXX genres. That’s right, we just couldn’t leave out a touch of bow chicka bow wow.

I’m not about to head into the ‘XXX’ area unescorted so for now .. it’s SciFi time! “Why Portia,” you ask, “is that a Star Trek commander top?” The answer is YES (thank you Eclectic Apparel) and you can get one too – at Cinema! Need a phaser? How about some 3D glasses? There are hundreds of items, all film starlet-ready and waiting for you. Don’t forget to visit the HCE concession stand either, where everything is calorie-free, fat-free, and also free-free!

Portia’s Closet ~ Shiny!

Hey everyone! Long time no see.

Well, it hasn’t been -that- long, I suppose, but since I’ve been trying to photograph new outfits for the last week or so, it feels like forever. I’ve learned, however, that you can’t force yourself to do anything pretty if the pretty doesn’t want to come out. That’s deep, right?

Speaking of pretty, though, a friend of mine turned me on to a great store last week! Have any of you been to Shine before? The tagline is ‘Urban Boho Style With a Glow’ and gosh, I think I picked up one of everything on my first trip (there’s even a 99L$ wall, AAHHH!).  Am I glowy yet? No? Well, I feel positively Shiny! The clothes are mostly mesh, gorgeous, and nothing here is going to break your bank .. unless you buy one (or more!) of everything your first trip out. Seriously. Go peek. <3

Has anyone else been waiting on Gos with bated breath? Am I WAY late telling you about the new(ish) Equestrian and Hunter boots?! Can you SEE how gorgeous they are?!! Sexy, sleek, and perfect for the colder months ahead, they’re available in fantastic colours and, like everything else at Gos, they fit great right out of the bag. Demos at the mainstore, ladies.
